Biological Effects of Metals in Plants and Animals

This course examines how metals have contaminated soils and how plants and animals can adapt to this environment. The uptake of metals by plants and later consumption by animals including humans can cause serious health effects. Students gain knowledge on the effects of metal contaminated soil on plants and animals. Basic genetic and physiological adaptation processes in plants and animals in metal polluted ecosystems are considered. Pre-requisites: BIOL 1506 or BIOL 1000, and one of Grade 12 U-level chemistry, CHMI 1031 or CHMI 1041. (Lec 3) cr 3. Students cannot retain credit for both BIOL 2806 and BIOL 3806.
