Vibrez au rythme de la francophonie
This program of study provides a comprehensive education in French language, literature and linguistics.
Littérature et culture francophones Program
The Littérature et culture francophones Program – for Francophone students – includes literature, theatre and creative writing courses, as well as select interdisciplinary courses that focus on literature.
Literature courses mainly cover French Ontario, Quebec and France, though some explore more specific themes, such as cinema or mining imagery. Faculty are experienced researchers and writers who provide a comprehensive overview, giving students a rich perspective of past and present literatures.
Close collaboration with the Théâtre Program allows students to count certain courses from this discipline as mandatory courses. A selection of courses exploring literature from other viewpoints (law, philosophy, religion, etc.) are also part of a specific stream of study. It is therefore possible to follow a unique study path while benefiting from the strengths and special features of our academic environment.
Sciences du langage Program
The Sciences du langage Program – an arts program for Francophone students – proposes various courses on theoretical and applied linguistics, translation, communications, as well as language industries and professions, allowing students to learn about language and brain functions, the origins of language, the challenges of bilingualism, etc.
With its laboratory of language arts and science, the Department of French Studies provides teaching in a state-of-the-art facility that allows students to access digital dictionaries (Petit Robert, Multidictionnaire), electronic proofreaders (Antidote), terminology databases (Termium, TLFi, GDT, DOQLF), computer-assisted translation tools, and many other internet-based language resources. In addition, students have opportunities to work as language assistants in the program, tutors in French as a Second Language courses or research assistants in the Ontario French-Language Observatory.
